What is FSC® Certification?

The global standard for responsible forest management

FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) is the most recognized certification system for responsible forest management worldwide. Founded in 1993, FSC® sets standards for forests and wood products that are environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable.

FSC® History and Mission

FSC® was founded following the 1992 Rio Earth Summit, as a response to global concerns about deforestation. The organization brings together businesses, environmental NGOs, indigenous communities, and other stakeholders to develop responsible forest management standards.

Types of FSC® Labels

There are three main types of FSC® labels, each with different significance:

FSC 100%

The product contains exclusively materials from FSC® certified forests. This is the highest level of certification and guarantees complete traceability.

FSC Mix

The product contains a mixture of materials from FSC® certified forests, controlled sources, and/or recycled materials. Minimum 70% must come from certified or recycled sources.

FSC Recycled

The product contains 100% recycled materials (post-consumer or pre-consumer). Ideal for products promoting circular economy.
